what's growing on in the demo garden-4/8

so things are moving right along in the demo garden!  we have made much progress in removing weeds from the main garden and its many beds.  there are still a few hot spots around the perimeter, especially in the corner near the bottle tree and under the grape arbor by the raised beds.

the other main targets are the old perennial bed near the orchard and the small, raised beds that make up the memorial garden.  these two areas are so over run with chickweed that the plants are barely visible.  we need to clean them up in order to salvage the plants-they will be relocated into the new memorial garden that will be built this spring.  the shade ground cover beds under the trees also need some work.

the next pressing task is to finish labeling the encore azaleas according to bloom color.  they will be dug up and potted for the plant sale.  we have a total of 42 shrubs and so far, 30 are tagged-sorry, i ran out of tags!

here is a peek at what is blooming in the demo garden:
virginia sweet spire in the rain garden

false blue indigo in the rain garden

 comfrey in the herb garden

 columbines in the shade garden

love this combo of creeping jenny, blue spruce sedum and stone crop with the volunteer lambs ears

and as always, something freshly baked-cinnamon rolls, warm from the oven and dripping with glaze!
