rules to garden by

Nothing takes the fun out of a project faster than a bunch of rules!  However, we do have to establish a few just to keep things in order.
  • Frst and foremost, before doing any work in the garden, you must take a guided tour so that you know which areas we are working in and which areas are off limits.  Please email us using the address on the contact page to set up an appointment for a tour.
  • When you come to the garden, please bring your favorite tools, gloves, sunblock, water, and any other thing you may like to use.  We do not have access to storage and if you plan to complete a task requiring a special tool, it is best to bring it with you.  One other note, if you bring your own tools, please take the time to sanitize them before and after you work in the garden-that is how we stop the spread of viruses and fungus!
  • Due to safety issues, the rear greenhouse is off limits because of the glass falling from the roof.
  • Before you make changes to any bed or structure in the garden-first check the blog page and second, contact us and ask us.  We have a specific list of what needs to be done and ask that you start there.
  • If you need to use a rest room, chances are you will have to go over to the horse barn to use the public restroom.  However, when the UT/Extension office is open, Monday to Friday from 9 to 5, we are allowed to enter the building for this purpose-please be sure to have your badge.
  • Always remember to sign in and out using the book; it is kept in the mailbox which is in the breezeway connecting the greenhouse to the building.  No one is keeping tabs on you but we do need to file a report of hours worked each quarter.
  • We want you to enjoy your time out in the garden but we all have to abide by the rules that apply anytime you are on state owned property.  What this means is that there is a strict leash law as well as a pooper scooper law so you may just want to leave the dog at home.  Alcohol is not permitted so think carefully before cracking open a cold one.  Removing the flora and fauna is prohibited just like it is in any state park or property and that can be applied to the things we plant too.  The other obvious rules that apply in state parks also are in effect here so keep your clothes on, use the restrooms by the horse barn, don't even think about pitching a tent for the night, and leave the guns at home-unless they are water guns-those are welcome!
  • Most of all, join us for a peaceful time and enjoy the beautiful garden!  We appreciate your help and want you to feel at home here.
