hello everyone! i am hoping that by going out on a few weekdays, besides my usual sunday mornings, that i can get things moving along in the garden. keep an eye on the emails since i generally do not know much more than a day in advance if i will be able to get out to the garden. today, 3/30, virginia and i met in the garden and discussed our plans for the season. we also began to break down the block beds. if you want to continue what we started, place the blocks in the same area that we have begun stacking them in. empty the dirt in the blocks into the center of the bed and try not to spread the dirt around. we want to keep the dirt in the smallest space until we can shovel it off to a needed location. a couple of notes, wear gloves and beware of creepy crawlies when you move the blocks-there are lots of centipedes and they can bite and i encountered at least one red wasp building a nest in the blocks.
the finished vertical garden. there is poultry netting stapled across the frame and bamboo poles to support the middle.
look at all of those weeds!!! caroll put down some weed killing granules and we are waiting for rain to water it in and get to work.
the cake...it was pound cake and it was flavored with clementines. it was very tasty. i will post the link to the recipe as soon as it is available!
and, if it is a work day in the garden, there is bound to be cake. maple walnut, upside down persimmons cake...recipe will be up at some point and i will link to it.
