4/17-what's happening this week in the garden

what a beautiful morning it was!  warm and sunny with a little breeze but all in all, perfect for working in the garden.
the bluebirds have another clutch of eggs in the box by the herb garden.  darry opened it up and we counted 4 eggs.

alice found a snake egg in the herb garden

after helping me weed the entire herb garden, alice joined lynn in the shade garden to cut back the liriope and to weed it as well.

lynn, hard at work, in the shade garden

our newest volunteer, virginia, decided to tackle the old perennial bed.  it is in poor condition due to invasive weeds but there are still some beautiful plants hidden there.

darry and david are building cold frames for the field day event

we will be featuring cold frames at the field day event and david purchased this one.  the center bar has a thermometer in it that causes the lid to raise or lower depending on the temperature.

we will be planting beans here

what's blooming:
 clematis in the gazebo

 columbines

 lily of the valley

 solomons seal

 ajuga, kaitlyns giant

 jacobs ladder

 tiarella

false blue indigo

can you believe that i forgot to take a picture of the cake?  well, we had a banana nut cake and with so many volunteers (anne, sam and will left before i could take photos of them) and there wasn't much of it left!  come on out and join us, we could use the help preparing the garden for field day.
