this morning, darry and i packed up the car and headed over to the demo garden to work a volunteer shift. we hadn't been there in a few weeks and we figured we would have something to do but with the lack of rain we thought the weeds would be somewhat under control. how wrong we were! as master gardeners, we should be embarrassed for any one to see the growth of weeds and the condition of the plants. there are over 200 members in davidson county and according to the sign in sheet, in the last 7 weeks only 4 people besides the two of us have visited the garden and worked a shift. the frequency of volunteers averages about 1-2 a week and most often, it has just been the two of us. it is too bad that our fellow members do not care about the garden as much as our small group does. it is a beautiful and unique site that could be enjoyed by all.
